Dear Friends,
Every April 21, Indonesian school children all around the country wear Indonesian traditional outfits to celebrate the Kartinis Day. So many beautiful and colorful traditional clothings represent all tribes of Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke. Inspired by the diversity and unity of this archipelago nation, my friends and I are wearing some of Indonesian traditional outfits: the Javanese and Balinese. I personally think that all Indonesian traditional outfits are cool! Thats why Vimna, Fuzzy, Jinga and I will try to wear as many of these outfits as possible. Always follow our Facebooks postings or our Twitter @cobbleheart to see how we look in these gorgeous outfits! In addition to fabulous and colorful clothings, Kartinis Day is actually celebrating womens emancipation. During the Dutch colonial time, girls in Indonesia, especially in Java, did not have the same rights as boys. For example, not a lot of girls had the chance to go to school. Kartini fought this injustice through her letters, and now, new generation of Indonesian girls have the chances to be as good as, if not better than, boys. Vimna and Jinga love the idea so much, and I hope not only girls and women who will support this idea, but also boys and men. Boys and girls have the same rights and responsibilities... Happy Kartinis Day. Truly Yours, Didgit |
