The 39th interactive comic strip for my Soul Snacks by Didgit have been uploaded to my Facebook and Twitter/ Twitpics accounts on Wednesday, October 2, 2013.

October 2 has been celebrated in Indonesia as the National Batik day. The word batik was thought to be derived from the word ambatik which means a cloth with little dots. It also could originate from the Javanese word tritik which describes a resist process for dying-similar to tie dye technique. But my favorite Javanese phase for making batik is mbatik manah which means drawing a batik design on the heart.

Simply put, batik is a highly decorated fabric, and I personally think, some batik designs are truly highly developed art forms. There are thousands of different kinds of batik designs where some particular designs are associated with traditional festivals and specific religious ceremonies. Way back when, certain batik cloths were believed to possess mystical powers to ward off ill fortune or brought good luck.

There are batik designs especially reserved for brides and bridegrooms and their families, and the Sultan and his royal family will definitely have their own exclusive designs. A persons rank in the royal household could be determined by the patern of the batik he or she wore.

Thats why, in order to honor and celebrate these highly artful and beautiful cloths, my friends and I made our own version of batik outfits. What do you think? They are pretty cool, right? Lets make batik COOL by wearing them!
