The 77th Soul Snacks by Didgit's Interactive Comic Strip
The 77th interactive comic strip for my "Soul Snacks by Didgit" have been uploaded to my Facebook and Twitter/ Twitpic's accounts on Wednesday, July 9, 2014.

This edition coincides with the contributor's birthday, Princess Ina! It is also appropriate because Indonesian Moslems as countless others around the world observe this as a month of fasting.

The Dugderan tradition of Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia, was one unique tradition held one day before the beginning of the month of Ramadan. It is a unique festival since this tradition began in 1881 during the reign of Kanjeng Bupati Semarang Raden Mas Tumenggung Arya Purbaningrat. Dugderan ritual hereditary took place in the Great Mosque Kauman Semarang, which begins with the procession and escorted by soldiers Duchy of percussion drum Semarang old days.

The most prominent element in this carnival is a mystical creature called the "Warak Ngendog" or egg laying bird. It resembles a rhinoceros carrying eggs on its back. Warak Ngendog also represents peaceful acculturation amongst three ethnic groups in Semarang: Javanese, Chinese and Arabian. The Warak's head looks like a dragon (Chinese), while its body is the combination of "buraq" (a special animal that looks like a winged horse with a human headd believed to take Prophet Mohammed to Sidratil Muntaha- Arabian) and a goat (Javanese).

Warak Ngendog also is described to be part giraffe, part lion, part Chinese dragon, part horse, and part bird. During the festival it is made into popular toys for children. Therefore, we come up with our version of Warak Ngendog. Check them out!
